The Year 3 PALMS activities encourage students to use scientific testing and accurate measurements to explain how Earth’s rotation and the Sun’s light causes day, night and shadows. They construct simple equipment to measure time in years, months, days and minutes. They also create models to display the relative sizes and movement of the Sun, Earth and Moon.
The Year 3 STEM Project explores the concepts of day and night. Students work through introductory activities on shadow tracking, keeping Moon diaries, cultural stories and scale models before taking this knowledge into the design of a garden.
